At least 20% of veterans in Ukraine experience post-traumatic stress disorder after participating in combat operations. Veterans are one of the vulnerable groups to the development of mental disorders and mental health problems, and therefore need high-quality psychological and psychotherapeutic care.
Unfortunately, the activities of psychologists and psychotherapists are still not regulated in Ukraine. The methods by which such assistance can be provided are not defined, as are the requirements for training specialists who provide it. Therefore, people without appropriate competencies have access to such activities. The order of the Ministry of Health No. 199, which regulates psychotherapeutic and psychological assistance, is outdated. It still defines such methods as" suggestion "and"hypnosis". Professional public associations are the only self-regulating bodies for psychotherapists. However, the state does not recognize them.
Because of such problems, it is easier for some veterans to learn the methods of psychological assistance in the "equal to equal" format for their brothers, which is what the hero of our video, Alexander, did. The project "Mental Health for Ukraine" (MH4U) aims to improve legislation in this area so that every Ukrainian has access to high-quality mental health care.
